CreativeCH travels to Japan

On 6th-9th March, mNACTEC was invited by Gunma Prefectural Government to participate in “Industrial Heritage Youth Programme in Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites”. The aim of the event was to promote international interchange and academic research centered on Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites.

The conference gathered professionals from accross the world (Mexico, Italy, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Hungary and Spain) working in industrial Heritage from different fields, such as architecture, sociology, archeology, communication and education.

Gisela Gonzalo, Project Coordinator of CreativeCH at mNACTEC shared the museum experience with CreativeCH with “Augmented Industrial Heritage: Promoting Heritage among young people through augmented reality and other ICT solutions ”.

The day after, Eusebi Casanelles, Live President of TICCIH and former Director of mNACTEC gave the lecture “The preservation of Industrial heritage in Catalonia and textile mills reutilization”, mentioning some of the actions launched in the framework of CreativeCH, such as Terrassa Augmentada.

Tomioka Silk Mill is Japan's oldest modern model silk reeling factory, established in 1872 by the government to introduce modern machine silk reeling from France and spread its technology in Japan. The factory is designated by the government as a historical site and all its buildings are preserved in very good condition. There has been a growing understanding of the international significance of Tomioka Silk Mill and as a result “Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Industrial Heritage” was included in the Japanese Tentative List of World Heritage Sites in 2007. Preparation of a nomination to UNESCO for the inscription on the World Heritage List is now making progress.
